July 4th Fitness Fun in Marlton

Housel family at a local event

The Evesham Celebrations Foundation is hosting a day of July 4th fitness fun with the Marlton Mayor’s Cup 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk beginning at 8:30am.

After the race/walk, the Kids’ Bike Parade will take place at 10:30am, followed by the Main Parade at 11:00am.

Starting at 7 pm at Cherokee High School there will be games for the kids and food for all. Look for the skydivers at 8:00pm, and then enjoy the grand finale, the fireworks, beginning at 9:30pm.

The 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk will be held RAIN OR SHINE on Thursday. In case of severe weather, participants will wait at the fire house on Main St. until it is deemed safe to run. No 5K rain date.

If morning weather interferes with the Kids Bike Parade or Main Parade (more than simply sprinkles) and safety officials determine the events should not be held, then the Bike Parade, Main Parade AND evening Fireworks will all move to Saturday, 7/6, at the same times/locations.

If evening weather interferes with the Fireworks, then the evening Fireworks will move to Saturday, 7/6, at the same time/location.

Biggest way to cut calories this Thanksgiving?

What is the biggest way to cut calories this Thanksgiving?  Eat less of your favorite stuff – I hate to over simplify, but we have been talking to our classes all week about eating your favorite things in moderation on Thanksgiving.  Do we really need 10 helpings of pumpkin pie to have a great Thanksgiving?  If you are looking for Healthy Holiday Eating and Cooking Tips there are tons on the internet.  Make some time for physical activity and eat small portions of your favorite stuff!!!

Family Fitness Friday – Skating, Bouncy Stuff and Tunnels

Family Fitness Friday

Looking for a fun family fitness activity?  The International Sports Center in Mt. Laurel and Cherry Hill and the DSC in Deptford offer a nite of play for $8 on Fridays.  It’s Roller Skating, a Huge Fun House with tunnels, and Bouncy Stuff – They also have all you can eat pizza – If you are looking to stay healthy obviously eat before you come (the pizza seems to be very hit or miss anyway!)

Hurricane Sandy – How to Help

I was born and raised in Toms River. As a real young kid, I spent every sunny day I can remember on 3rd Ave in Ortley Beach – We used to walk through the Surf Club every day and now it’s gone!

I also worked on the Seaside Boardwalk at the Berkley Clam Bar for 12 years.  The Clam Bar helped make me who I am today and from what I understand, that is gone too!

I have included some links that I hope will be helpful – please feel free to post any yourself

For my Ocean County Friends – Here is a link to gas stations that are open

If you are looking to donate, PLEASE be careful – There are some scam artists that show up at times like these!

American Red Cross – Hurricane Sandy Relief

American Red Cross is also looking for BLOOD donations and possibly even volunteers for their shelters!

Looking to volunteer?  Here is some info from the State of NJ.  I haven’t had much luck myself with these contact numbers – I am hoping that once things come down a bit they will be ale to get back to people and let them know what they need!

NJ Emergency response volunteer hotline, 1-800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397). Alternate numbers, for when the hotline isn’t staffed, include 609-775-5236 and 908-303-0471 or emails can be sent to Rowena.Madden@sos.state.nj.us.

For up to date in formation on Toms River and Seaside I have found the Toms River Patch to be the most comprehensive informaton spot.
